Valor Hospitality UK and Europe has launched a new initiative across its portfolio to support Specs For Africa, a UK-based charitable initiative dedicated to collecting and recycling pre-loved glasses for African communities.
Spearheaded by Valor Hospitality’s UK President, Brian McCarthy, the drive will see nearly 40 hotels across Valor’s UK portfolio collect second-hand glasses for those in need across Africa’s rural communities.
Established in 2022 by Peter and Anne Corder, Specs For Africa is a volunteer-led project that works to improve sight and transform lives, giving people greater access to education and employment in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
So far, Valor Hospitality's efforts have seen Holiday Inn Eastleigh - together with members of its health club - collect over 2,000 pairs of glasses, which have since been donated to Specs For Africa.
Brian McCarthy, President of Valor Hospitality UK and Europe, said:
“Specs For Africa’s vision is simple but so effective. Many of us will have a spare pair of old glasses tucked away and forgotten in a drawer at home. But they have life-changing potential for people in Africa’s rural communities. We are encouraging all hotels in our UK portfolio to get involved and collect as many unused glasses and sunglasses as possible.”
Peter and Anne Corder, the founders of Specs for Africa, added: “These will make such a difference to people in Africa. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far!”
